About the Artist
Me & a Horseshoe Crab, Gatlinburg
My name is Sara Larson. I live in Indianapolis, Indiana, about fifty miles from the place I was born. My husband Bill and I have a bungalow in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood, and are kept by two dogs and a cat.
I started playing around with beads because a friend was really into it, and it looked fun. I made some loomed and strung stuff for Christmas gifts one year, and was amazed at how well they were received. The next Christmas, I offered to make some jewelry gifts for a friend to give her nieces and nephews. She was pleased with the stuff, and I was excited by making money! Then I got ambitious and entered to a few art & craft shows. People actually bought my stuff!
Now I'm at the bead table every day, and I'm always learning new techniques. Off-loom weaving, polymer clay. More beads. I'm learning to work with Precious Metal Clay, and studying lampworking to make my own glass beads. In the future, I want to learn more about wire wrapping and metalsmithing. I can't imagine every being bored at this or running out of new things to master. There just aren't enough hours in the day.
I believe that there is magick in beauty. I also believe that people should be able to have beautiful things without having to spend a ton of money. Every piece I make, large or small, is a reflection of my wish to make the world a little bit brighter. As I work, I am mindful of all the hands that touch this piece, from the bead manufacturer to the customer, and all the lives it touches. I use the best quality materials, and I try to patronize other artists. I believe that if something is made with love and care and is sent out filled with wishes for happiness, it will radiate those emotions to the world.
